Anthony Atala, MD

Director, Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine, H. Boyce Professor and Chair of Urology, Wake Forest School of Medicine Professor. Dr. Atala is a practicing surgeon and a researcher in the area of regenerative medicine. His work focuses on growing human cells, tissues and organs.

Anthony Atala, MD works with several journals and serves in various roles, including Editor-in-Chief of: Stem Cells - Translational Medicine, Current Stem Cell Research and Therapy, Therapeutic Advances in Urology, and BioPrinting. Dr Atala is a recipient of awards, including the U.S. Congress-funded Christopher Columbus Foundation Award, bestowed on a living American who is currently working on a discovery that will significantly affect society, the World Technology Award in Health and Medicine, the Samuel D Gross Prize in Surgical Research, the Innovation Award from the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, the Rocovich Gold Medal, and the Edison Science/Medical Award for work in 3D Bioprinting. In 2011 he was elected to the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences, and in 2014 was inducted to the National Academy of Inventors as a Charter Fellow. Dr Atala's ongoing work has been described in the lay press. Dr Atala's work was listed in 2007 as Time Magazine's top 10 medical breakthroughs of the year, by Discover Magazine in 2007 as the Number 1 Top Science Story of the Year in the field of medicine, by Smithsonian Magazine in 2010 as one of 40 things to know about the next 40 years, by Time Magazine in 2011 as one of the top five medical breakthroughs of the year, by the Huffington Post in 2011 as one of 18 great ideas for the future, and by Time Magazine in 2013 as one of five discoveries that will change the future of organ transplants.

Dr Atala was named by Scientific American in 2010 as a Medical Treatments Leader of the Year for his contributions to the fields of cell, tissue and organ regeneration, by U.S. News & World Report in 2009 in as one of 14 Pioneers of Medical Progress in the 21st Century, by the American Association of Retired Persons in 2012 as one of the 50 influential people who will make life better, and by Scientific American in 2015 as one of the world's most influential people in biotechnology. Dr Atala has led or served several national professional and government committees, including the National Institutes of Health working group on Cells and Developmental Biology, the Bioengineering Consortium, the National Cancer Institute's National Cancer Advisory Board, and was the Founder of the Regenerative Medicine Foundation. Dr Atala heads a team of over 450 physicians and researchers. Over twelve applications of technologies developed in Dr Atala's laboratory have been used clinically. He is the editor of fourteen books, including Principles of Regenerative Medicine, 3D Biofabrication, Essentials of Stem Cell Biology, and Methods of Tissue Engineering. He has published more than 500 journal articles and has applied for or received over 250 national and international patents.

Heather Barnhart, PT, PhD, CWS, CLT-LANA, CLWT is board certified as a Certified Wound Specialist (CWS) from the American Board of Wound Management (ABWM), Advanced Wound Care Certified (AWCC) through National Alliance of Wound Care and Ostomy (NAWCO) and is a Certified Lymphedema Therapist (CLT) by the Academy of Lymphatic Studies (ACOLS). Dr Hettrick holds a dual certification as a Lymphedema and Wound Therapist (CLWT) from the International Lymphedema and Wound Training Institute (ILWTI) and she earned her LANA credential from the Lymphology Association of North America. Dr Hettrick also completed the APTA’s Clinical Instructional Education and Credentialing Program and is a credentialed Clinical Instructor. She is an Experiential Learning Fellow by the National Society for Experiential Education and a Comprehensive Oncology Rehabilitation Expert (CORE) through ILWTI.

Alla Danilkovitch, RN, MS, PhD joined Osiris in 2003. At Osiris Dr Danilkovitch is responsible for development of Osiris' product pipeline and leads Research and Development, Medical Affairs and Clinical Operations. She is a researcher with more than 25 years of experience in Academia, U.S. Government and Industry combined. She has a proven record of successful product development from scientific ideas to market launch, which includes the world's first approved stem cell drug, remestemcel-L (Prochymal), for graft-versus-host disease, as well as BIO4 for bone repair, Cartiform for cartilage repair, Grafix and TruSkin for acute and chronic wounds, and Stravix for soft tissue repair. Her areas of scientific expertise include cellular and molecular biology and immunology, cell biochemistry and signal transduction, assay development and validation, stem cell biology and cellular regenerative medicine product development. She is an active member of several professional societies and a current reviewer for many peer-reviewed journals including Stem Cells, Allergy & Inflammation, Advances in Wound Care and others. Dr Danilkovitch has an extensive list of awards (13), publications (50) and patent applications (55). She also has extensive mentoring experience with deep understanding of the importance of teaching a new generation of scientists. Prior to joining Osiris, Dr Danilkovitch conducted research at the National Cancer Institute of National Institutes of Health, the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry in Munich, Germany, the Etvos Lorand University, Budapest, Hungary, and at Moscow State University, Moscow, Russia. She earned a PhD in Cell Biology and an MS in Cellular Immunology and Microbiology from Moscow State University. She also has RN degree in Pediatrics from Moscow Regional School of Nursing, Russia.

Francis Derk, DPM, DABPM, FACPM earned his Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Pre-Medicine from the Pennsylvania State University with honors and graduated as an academic member of Alpha Epsilon Delta and Phi Delta Epsilon. He received his Doctorate in Podiatric Medicine from Temple University where he was also awarded the Dr. Gilbert Masters scholarship for academic achievement and the Dr. Helen Dynoskie award. He completed his externship, internship, and residency training at the University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio, Texas, before continuing his surgical residency training at the Central Texas Veterans Health Care System where he became an Associate of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. Shortly afterwards he became a Diplomate of the American Board of Podiatric Orthopedics, a Diplomate of the American Board of Podiatric Orthopedics and Primary Podiatric Medicine, and a Diplomate and Fellow of the American College of Podiatric Medicine. He served 28 years as a physician and limb salvage surgeon for the Veterans Health Care System and as Chief of the Department of Podiatric Surgery for 10 years before retiring. Throughout his career, Dr Derk served as an Associate and Assistant Clinical Professor in surgical residency training programs and an affiliate and consultant with several medical schools and military institutions throughout the United States. For over 20 years, he provided post graduate education and training in surgery for over 70 residents at the South Texas Veterans Health Care System and the University Texas Health Science Center. Dr. Derk continues to practice as a part-time attending and consultant for a group practice in San Antonio, Texas, serves as the Chief Medical Officer for MDM Wound Ventures, and continues his academic compassion as a national lecturer and author. Dr Derk has had a distinguished 27-year career in the United States Navy. He served 6 years with the United States Marine Corps as an Officer-in-Charge (OIC) in multiple areas of operations, command staff director, and a Joint Task Force Surgeon. He has designed, implemented, executed, and commanded several joint service operations as a plans, operations, medical, and intelligence officer. He is a veteran of foreign wars, Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom, and OCONUS joint military operations and exercises. While serving with the United States Marine Corps, he was awarded the rank of O6 / CAPT and has worn the rank proudly for the last 8 years of his military career. He currently serves as a medical officer, medical provider, and an OIC for the Funeral Honors Detail team. He is an active-duty selective reservist at the San Antonio Navy Reserve Center at BAMC, Texas. His military accolades include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (7 total), Navy Achievement Medal (5 total), Army Achievement Medal, OEF and OIF Mobilization Medals, Navy Volunteer Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Navy Pistol Marksmanship Medal (Expert), and the Navy Rifle Marksmanship Medal (Sharpshooter). His call sign is “Ghost Runner” and it’s no coincidence since he is an avid fitness instructor, competitor, and a gold medalist in several track and field events on the National Seniors tour where he has proudly represented the state of Texas.

Ryan H Fitzgerald, DPM

Ryan Fitzgerald, DPM, FACFAS was born in Charlottesville, Virginia and spent his childhood between living overseas and in central Virginia. He attended Hampden Sydney College, in Virginia, where he earned a bachelor's degree in Biology. Upon graduation, he pursued a career in medicine and moved to Miami, Florida, where he attended Barry University School of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery. While enrolled at Barry University, Dr Fitzgerald earned top marks in his didactic and clinical coursework consistently earning a place on the Dean and President lists, as well as earning both Leadership and Faculty scholarships. He graduated at the top of his class and was inducted into the Pi Delta National Podiatry Honor Society in recognition of his outstanding scholastic achievement. He was also awarded the American Board of Podiatric Surgery's prestigious Michael L Stone Professional Conduct Award. Following graduation, Dr Fitzgerald pursued his residency training at the MEDSTAR Washington Hospital Center, and at Georgetown University Hospital, in Washington DC. This program provided vast exposure to all facets of podiatric medical and surgical care, including advanced wound care techniques, diabetic limb salvage, pediatric deformity correction and reconstructive and trauma surgery of the foot and ankle. Dr Fitzgerald has a passion for medical missions and has served as a volunteer surgeon on missions around the world, most recently serving in the middle east, where he helped to staff forward operating field hospitals where he, and others, provided provides medical and surgical care to patients suffering as a consequence of the on-going Syrian refugee crisis. Dr Fitzgerald has also served as an attending physician Port-au-Prince, Haiti, where he worked alongside Haitian wound care specialists to perform limb-sparing surgery.

Myron Hansen, DPM


Myron Hansen, DPM was born and raised in Flagstaff, Arizona where he received his undergraduate degree from Northern Arizona University. He continued his education pursuing medicine from the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences in Des Moines, Iowa. He completed his surgical residency at Carl T Hayden VA Medical Center in Phoenix Arizona. Dr Hansen serves as a Vice President of the American Foundation of Lower Extremity Surgery and Research. He is a surgical attending of the VAMC Phoenix Residency Program and clinical faculty of the VAMC Phoenix High Risk Wound Care Clinic. He serves as clinical faculty for both, Des Moines University, College of Podiatry and Midwestern University, College of Podiatry. Dr Hansen has been published in several medical journals and is an active national lecturer on all subjects of lower extremity surgery. Dr Hansen has a private practice in the Chandler, Arizona and is board certified in Foot and Reconstructive Rearfoot and Ankle Surgery. His expertise is broad ranging from pediatric surgery, sports medicine to trauma and reconstructive procedures of the foot and ankle.

Brandon Hawkins, DPM, CWS, is the CEO and managing partner of Stockdale Podiatry Group in Bakersfield, Delano. Tulare and Porterville California. He manages both the Podiatry, Vascular and Medicine component to the group. He is currently the 2nd year clinical and surgical instructor for the Chino Valley residency program and he is a managing partner for Beverly Hills Hyperbaric Center.

Adam Landsman, DPM, PhD

Adam Landsman, DPM, PhD is a graduate of the Temple School of Podiatric Medicine, and also completed a PhD in Bioengineering at the University of Pennsylvania. Following a podiatric surgical residency at HealthSouth in Miami, he served as the Director of Research at the Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine for eight years. He also practiced with Dr Lowell Weil in Chicago. Finally, in 2006, he joined the faculty at Harvard Medical School, and the Joslin Diabetic Foot Clinic at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. In 2010, he moved across the Charles River to Cambridge, where he now serves as the Chief of the Division of Podiatric Surgery for the Cambridge Health Alliance, and is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Harvard. Dr Landsman has about 75 peer-reviewed publications, and has given over 200 lectures worldwide.

Steve McClain, MD hails from High Ridge, Missouri. He graduated from the University of Missouri and trained at the University of Vermont with Dermatopathology fellowship at New York University. He is Adjunct Professor of Dermatology and Emergency Medicine at SUNY at Stony Brook with research interests in Wound Healing, Malignant Melanoma, and Pathology Informatics. He practices dermatopathology privately in Smithtown NY, founding McClain Laboratories, LLC in 2004. His most recent work "Thickness of Normal Toenails" was submitted for publication in American Journal of Dermatopathology.

James McGuire, DPM, LPT, LPed, FAPWHc is the director of the Leonard Abrams Center for Advanced Wound Healing and a Clinical Professor in the Departments of Podiatric Medicine and Podiatric Biomechanics at the Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine, located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dr McGuire earned his DPM degree from the Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine in 1981. He is a fellow and founding member of the American Professional Wound Care Association and the Academy of Physicians in Wound Healing, and serves as an advisor to the board of the Council for Medical Education and Testing. Dr McGuire is a licensed Physical Therapist, a licensed Pedorthist, and is Certified in Wound Care by the Council for Medical Education and Testing (CMET). He is also board certified by both the American Board of Podiatric Surgery (ABPS) and the American Board of Podiatric Medicine (ABPM). After completing his residency in podiatric surgery, Dr McGuire left 10 years of private practice in Rutland Vermont in to become a member of the Temple faculty in 1992. He has over 40 years of experience in podiatric medicine, physical therapy, and wound management. He has published extensively, and has participated in several research trials involving the diabetic foot and wound healing. Dr McGuire has lectured both nationally and internationally and is in great demand as a speaker in the areas of wound healing, diabetic foot management, off-loading, and biomechanics of the at-risk foot. He lives with his wife Nancy in Berwyn, Pa. just outside of Philadelphia

Douglas Richie, Jr, DPM, received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Zoology from California State University, Long Beach in 1976. He received his Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine from the California College of Podiatric Medicine in 1980 and completed a post-graduate residency program in foot and ankle surgery at Western Medical Center in California in 1981. Dr Richie is certified in Foot and Ankle Surgery by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. He is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine. Currently, Dr Richie has faculty appointments at the California School of Podiatric Medicine at Samuel Merritt University as well as the School of Podiatric Medicine at Western University. He is the past Chairman of the Podiatric Medical Education Committee at the California School of Podiatric Medicine. Dr Richie has authored over 50 original articles published in respected medical journals and medical trade magazines. He has been an invited speaker at over 100 medical symposiums throughout the United States as well as the United Kingdom, Canada, Spain, Italy, and Australia. Dr Richie's past accomplishments include serving as a Board member and Past President of the American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine for 7 years and serving as Section Editor (Sports Medicine) for the Journal of Foot and Ankle Surgery for 10 years.

Jarrod Shapiro, DPM, FACFAS, FACPM is a Board-Certified podiatric foot and ankle physician and surgeon who has been in practice for almost 20 years. He is also a fellow with the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons and the American College of Podiatric Medicine. Dr Shapiro has taught at Western University for the past 13 years and is a full professor and associate dean of clinical affairs. He is the residency program director at the Chino Valley Medical Center PMSR/RRA program in Chino, California. Dr Shapiro's training includes a 3-year foot and ankle residency at Botsford Hospital in Farmington Hills, Michigan after graduating from the California College of Podiatric Medicine in San Francisco, CA in 2003. After completing his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree at the California College of Podiatric Medicine, he did his 3-year postgraduate training at Botsford General Hospital in Farmington Hills, Michigan from 2003 - 2006. William H Tettelbach, CWS, MD

William H Tettelbach, MD graduated from The University of Tennessee School of Medicine in 1995. He completed his Internal Medicine residency and Infectious Diseases fellowship, as well as formal training in Biomedical Informatics, at the University of Utah. He currently is board certified in Undersea & Hyperbaric Medicine, Infectious Diseases, Internal Medicine, and retains an academic appointment at Duke University School of Medicine. From 2000 to 2003 he served as Medical Director for TheraDoc, a provider of electronic clinical surveillance to healthcare organizations, and provided subject matter expertise for the development of their Antibiotic Assistant,; 'Infection Control Assistant, and "Adverse Drug Event Assistant. These integrated clinical surveillance/decision support software modules have helped to improve the quality and safety of patient care and are now utilized in over 600 hospitals across the nation. While in practice within the Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare system in Memphis, Dr Tettelbach was acting Medical Director of Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine outpatient/inpatient services. He successfully opened the systems first wound care center that offered hyperbaric oxygen therapy as well as restructured the Methodist North Hospital's inpatient wound care teams which positively reduced the average length of stay in patients with active wounds and reduced the incidence of hospital acquired ulcers. Dr Tettelbach was invited to participate in the response to The Surviving Sepsis Campaign, a global initiative to bring together professional organizations to reduce mortality from sepsis and, as a result, led the development of a Cerner rules-based electronic "sepsis alert" module. Since its successful development, the now labeled “St. John's agent" has been adopted by other healthcare systems such as Toronto East General Hospital in Canada, the Henry Ford Medical Center in Detroit, Michigan, the University of Alabama at Birmingham Health Center and Catholic Healthcare West in California. Since returning to Utah in 2010, Dr Tettelbach has served as the Medical Director of Wound and Skin Care for the Central Region of Intermountain Healthcare. He has been an active member of the Intermountain Healthcare Infection Control Guidance Council and has been actively involved in the development of institutional policies that have resulted in a system-wide reduction in central line associated blood stream infections, a decrease in foley catheter-related urinary tract infections, and the establishment of an antimicrobial stewardship program. In 2013, he established a new Undersea & Hyperbaric Medicine Fellowship at Intermountain Healthcare through a cooperative agreement with Duke University. He also provides hyperbaric medicine, wound care and infectious diseases training to podiatry residents rotating through the Intermountain wound care clinics. Currently, Dr Tettelbach retains positions as System Executive Medical Director of Hyperbaric Medicine & Wound Care with Intermountain Healthcare, Medical Director of Infection Prevention & Wound Care with Landmark Hospital, and is the Program Director of the Undersea & Hyperbaric Medicine Fellowship in Salt Lake City for Duke University.

Lowell Weil, Jr, DPM, MBA, is the CEO of the world renowned Chicago-based Weil Foot & Ankle Institute. This is the largest physician majority owned and controlled podiatry practice in the world with 41 doctors, and 26 locations in five States. He is also the Founder of Foot and Ankle Business Innovations. He previously was the Co-Editor of Foot and Ankle Specialist, the only combined orthopedic and podiatric peer reviewed journal. Dr Weil, Jr has pioneered such surgeries as the dorsal approach plantar plate repair and has authored over 50 papers and text book chapters. He is a well known speaker having lectured in 26 States, 5 Continents and 16 Countries.

Dot has been practicing ostomy and wound management for 35 years. She received her wound certifications from the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurses Certification Board (CWON) and the American Board of Wound Management (CWS). She practices at the aratoga Hospital Center for Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Medicine in Sarratoga Springs, NY. Dot was a founding member and has held the office of Treasurer and President of the Association for the Advancement of Wound Care (AAWC), and is also a member of the Wound Healing Society (WHS), the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurses Society (WOCN), and the Florida Association of Enterostomal Therapists (FAET). She is the Co-Chair of the Symposium on Advanced Wound Care, was a founding co-editor of the journal Today's Wound Clinic, is on the faculty of the Wound Certification Prep Course, and is a consultant and speaker for several manufacturers. She has authored and co-authored manyl book chapters and journal articles, and is a frequent speaker on all aspects of wound management and wound healing.
